Description

2202-L), certified PCGS Choice Very Fine 35. This note carries the "Mule" designation, meaning it pairs a Series 1934A face plate with a Series 1934 back plate — a quirk of wartime production efficiency that collectors specifically seek out. Combined with the San Francisco district and the desirable Julian–Morgenthau Jr. signature combination, this is a well-documented and highly collectible variety. $500 notes were last printed in 1945 and officially discontinued by the Federal Reserve in 1969 due to low public use and the rise of electronic transactions, making any surviving example a tangible piece of a discontinued chapter in U. S. currency history.
