Coin Appraisals in San Antonio

Free walk-in coin appraisals in San Antonio — single coins, inherited collections, and estates evaluated by PCGS/NGC authorized dealers with 40+ years of experience.

Free Coin Appraisals in San Antonio

Lone Star Coins provides free, no-obligation coin appraisals in San Antonio. Walk in with a single coin or an inherited collection and our team will review it with you at the counter, explain the value drivers in plain language, and make a same-day offer if you decide to sell.

As PCGS and NGC authorized dealers with 40+ years in the San Antonio market, we evaluate everything from common silver coins to key-date rarities — and we never charge to look.

What We Appraise

We appraise U.S. type coins, Morgan and Peace silver dollars, gold coins, key dates and semi-key dates, certified coins in PCGS and NGC holders, U.S. and Confederate paper money, world coins with precious-metal content, and complete collections or estates.

If you inherited a collection and are not sure what is valuable, bring the whole group. We will separate common material from coins that deserve closer numismatic attention.

How a Coin Appraisal Works

We examine authenticity, grade, scarcity, metal content, eye appeal, and current collector demand, then compare against recent market activity. For most visitors a clear verbal valuation at the counter is all they need; for estates and insurance we can provide written appraisals.

You are welcome to watch the entire evaluation and ask questions. The goal is to explain what you have and why it is worth what it is — not to rush you through the counter.

Appraisal vs. Grading: What We Do and Don’t Do

We evaluate and buy coins, but we do not assign third-party grades in-house. Formal grading is performed by services such as PCGS and NGC. When a coin may benefit from certification, we will explain why grading could matter and how it can affect marketability and value.

Be cautious of any shop that claims it can “grade” your coins on the spot — legitimate, market-recognized grading comes only from recognized third-party services.

Estate & Inherited Coin Collections

Settling an estate is stressful, and coin collections are easy to undervalue. We handle inherited collections discreetly and transparently, explain the major pieces, and can work alongside families, attorneys, and executors.

When you are ready, we can make an offer on all or part of the collection, with same-day payment and help liquidating estates of any size.

Common Questions

Is the coin appraisal really free?+

Yes. Walk-in coin evaluations are free with no obligation to sell. We explain the value drivers whether or not you choose to sell.

Do you provide written appraisals for estates or insurance?+

Yes. We provide written appraisals for estate and insurance purposes in addition to verbal counter valuations.

Do you grade coins in-house?+

No. We evaluate and buy coins, but formal grading is done by third-party services such as PCGS and NGC. We can advise when certification is worthwhile.

What should I bring for a coin appraisal?+

Bring the coins themselves and any holders, prior appraisals, or inventory lists you have. No appointment is needed.

How does a coin collection appraisal work?+

A coin collection appraisal starts with a walk-in evaluation of the entire collection, piece by piece, at no charge. We separate common bullion and circulated coins from higher-value numismatic material — key dates, mint errors, and certified coins — since each category is valued differently. If you need documentation for an estate, insurance policy, or probate filing, we can provide a written appraisal. If you decide to sell, we can make a same-day offer on the spot, but the appraisal itself carries no obligation to sell.

Do you do coin estate appraisals for probate?+

Yes. We provide written coin estate appraisals for probate, insurance, and equitable distribution among heirs, and we regularly work directly with executors, attorneys, and families handling an inherited collection. The process is the same walk-in evaluation we use for any collection, but documented in writing with values suitable for court or insurance purposes. We handle these appraisals discreetly and without pressure to sell, whether the collection belongs to a recently passed relative or is part of an ongoing estate settlement.

Great service from the moment I walked in the doors. Friendly staff, Joshua assisted me with the authenticity of a couple coins. He answered the myriad of questions I had concerning buying and selling coins. The rates for selling and purchasing of precious metals are clearly displayed and are close to large market competitors. I’ll be back!
