About American Gold Eagles
American Gold Eagles are the official gold bullion coins of the United States, authorized by the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 and first struck by the U.S. Mint in 1986. They are among the most widely recognized gold coins in the world and are legal tender denominated in U.S. dollars — $5, $10, $25, and $50 for the 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz sizes, respectively.
The obverse carries Augustus Saint-Gaudens' classic Liberty design, adapted from his celebrated 1907 Double Eagle, depicting a striding Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch. The reverse, originally designed by Miley Busiek, features a nest of American bald eagles. Beginning with the 2021 issue, the U.S. Mint introduced a modernized reverse by Jennie Norris alongside an updated obverse portrait of Liberty by Emily Damstra. All American Gold Eagles are struck in 22-karat gold (.9167 fineness), with each coin containing its stated weight in pure gold — 1 troy oz, 1/2 troy oz, 1/4 troy oz, or 1/10 troy oz — alloyed with copper and silver for added durability.
Lone Star Coins carries American Gold Eagles across all four standard weights, including the full 1 oz size and the fractional 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz denominations. Our inventory includes both dated issues — such as the 2026 1 oz — and random-year coins for buyers focused on gold content over a specific date. Pricing reflects the live spot market. Coins are in stock at our San Antonio showroom, available for local pickup or nationwide shipping.
