Palladium is the one metal I'm outright bearish on. Its demand is dangerously concentrated in gasoline autocatalysts, precisely the segment being hollowed out by BEV and hybrid penetration. Worse, the premium palladium once enjoyed over platinum has already reversed, and automakers are actively substituting cheaper platinum wherever chemistry allows—a structural, one-way erosion of demand. Recycling volumes from end-of-life vehicles are climbing, adding secondary supply just as primary Russian and South African output persists. At $1,233 palladium has fallen far from its 2022 highs but still lacks a new demand engine to replace autos; there is no meaningful jewelry, solar or electrification story. A cyclical auto restock or a Russian supply shock could spark sharp short-covering rallies, so I'm not maximally bearish on the range. But the secular trajectory points lower, and I expect palladium to keep underperforming the rest of the platinum-group basket.
