Description

The 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 65 is a Gem Uncirculated example of one of America's most celebrated coin series. Struck in 90% silver, the Morgan Dollar was designed by U. S. Mint engraver George T. Morgan and produced from 1878 through 1921. The 1921 date holds special significance as the final year of the original Morgan Dollar run, minted in large numbers under the Pittman Act before the series gave way to the Peace Dollar in 1922. At the MS 65 level, this coin exhibits strong luster, sharp strike, and only minimal contact marks as expected at the Gem grade. The obverse displays Morgan's elegant left-facing portrait of Liberty crowned with a Phrygian cap and wheat, encircled by thirteen stars and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse presents a heraldic eagle with spread wings, an olive branch, and arrows, framed by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR. This example is sealed in NGC's signature hard-plastic holder bearing certification number 3866955-009, providing secure, long-term protection for the coin's Gem surfaces while making it ready for display or storage in any standard slab collection.

Frequently asked questions

This 1921 Morgan Dollar has been graded MS 65 (Gem Uncirculated) by NGC — the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation — one of the two most widely recognized third-party grading services in the world. The NGC certification number is 3866955-009, which can be verified in NGC's online registry.
Morgan Dollars are struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, a composition used for U.S. silver dollars from 1878 through 1921. Each coin weighs 26.73 grams and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, making them desirable to both numismatists and silver collectors.
1921 was the final year of the original Morgan Dollar series, which ran from 1878 to 1904 before being briefly revived in 1921. Following the Pittman Act of 1918, millions of dollars were struck in 1921. The series was then succeeded by the Peace Dollar in 1922, making 1921 the last chapter of a 44-year legacy.
Yes, this coin belongs to the Morgan Dollar series (1878–1921). MS 65 is the Gem Uncirculated grade on the 70-point Sheldon scale, representing a coin with full mint luster and only minimal, scattered contact marks. MS 65 Morgans are considerably scarcer than lower Mint State grades and are highly sought by date-and-grade collectors.
