Description

The 2005 American Silver Eagle $1 is a 1 troy oz, 0. 999 fine silver bullion coin struck by the United States Mint, here certified MS-69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The MS-69 designation reflects a coin that is virtually perfect, exhibiting full mint luster with only the most minimal imperfections allowable at that grade level — placing it in the top tier of the Silver Eagle series for date-by-date registry collectors. The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's iconic Walking Liberty design, first introduced on the 1916 Half Dollar and widely regarded as one of the finest artistic achievements in American coinage. Liberty strides confidently toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak. The reverse presents John Mercanti's heraldic bald eagle with a shield at its breast, clutching an olive branch and arrows beneath thirteen stars. The legend "1 OZ. FINE SILVER — ONE DOLLAR" is inscribed along the lower rim. This coin is encapsulated in NGC's rigid, sonically sealed holder with the certification label clearly displaying the date, series, and grade, making it ready for display or registry submission straight from the slab.

Frequently asked questions

This coin is graded MS-69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), one of the most respected third-party grading services in the hobby. MS-69 indicates a coin with virtually flawless surfaces and full, vibrant mint luster, near the very top of the Mint State scale.
Each American Silver Eagle contains exactly 1 troy oz of 0.999 fine silver, as inscribed on the reverse of the coin itself. This specification has remained consistent across the entire Silver Eagle series since its debut in 1986.
The obverse Walking Liberty design was created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, originally used on the 1916–1947 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The heraldic eagle reverse was designed by John Mercanti, a former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
The coin is sealed inside NGC's rigid, sonically welded hard plastic slab, which protects the surfaces from handling and environmental exposure. The slab ships as-is and does not require any additional packaging by the buyer to maintain its certified grade.
