Description

The 2013 American Silver Eagle $1, graded MS 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), is a 1 troy oz coin struck in 0. 999 fine silver by the United States Mint. The obverse carries Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally introduced on the half dollar in 1916, depicting Lady Liberty striding forward beneath a rising sun while draped in the American flag. The reverse features John Mercanti's heraldic bald eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching an olive branch and arrows, with thirteen stars arching overhead and the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and FINE SILVER — ONE DOLLAR. At MS 69, this coin exhibits virtually flawless surfaces with only the most minimal, inconsequential imperfections allowable at that grade level. It is encapsulated in NGC's distinctive patriotic Stars and Stripes flag holder, making it a visually striking presentation piece for any American silver bullion or modern coin collection.

Frequently asked questions

NGC graded this coin MS 69, indicating a near-perfect Mint State example with virtually no post-mint imperfections. At this grade level the coin displays full, original luster across both obverse and reverse surfaces, representing the upper tier of quality for business-strike American Silver Eagles.
Each American Silver Eagle contains exactly 1 troy oz of 0.999 fine silver, as inscribed on the coin's reverse. This fineness and weight are mandated by the Liberty Coin Act of 1985, which established the American Silver Eagle program.
NGC's Stars and Stripes holder is a special patriotic slab featuring an American flag motif on the insert behind the coin. It is a collectible presentation format that enhances display appeal while maintaining the same tamper-evident, archival-quality protection as a standard NGC slab.
The obverse Walking Liberty design was created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, first used on U.S. half dollars beginning in 1916. The reverse heraldic eagle was designed by John Mercanti, former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, and has appeared on every American Silver Eagle since the series launched in 1986.
