2021 American Gold Eagle $25 Half-Oz Type 2 NGC MS70 First Day of Issue

The 2021 American Gold Eagle $25 Type 2 NGC MS70 First Day of Issue marks one of the most significant redesigns in the series' history. Struck by the United States Mint and containing 1/2 troy oz of fine gold, this coin carries a $25 face value and represents the first year of the completely modernized Type 2 reverse design. The obverse retains Augustus Saint-Gaudens' iconic Liberty striding forward, torchlit and holding an olive branch against a sunburst field. The reverse introduces a bold new close-up Eagle Portrait by engraver Jennie Norris, replacing the family-of-eagles design that had appeared on the coin since 1986 — making 2021 Type 2 coins a natural collecting milestone. NGC certified this example MS70, the pinnacle of the Mint State scale, confirming a flawless strike with no post-production imperfections. The First Day of Issue designation documents that the coin was submitted to NGC from a US Mint Sealed Box on the first day the coins were released to the public.
