Description

The 2008 American Silver Eagle Dollar is a 1 troy oz coin struck in 0. 999 fine silver by the United States Mint, graded Gem Uncirculated by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and sealed in NGC's tamper-evident slab under certification number 3255126-045. The American Silver Eagle series, launched in 1986, is the official silver bullion coin of the United States and among the most widely collected silver coins in the world. The obverse carries Adolph A. Weinman's beloved Walking Liberty design — originally created for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar — depicting Lady Liberty striding confidently toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag, with an olive branch in hand. The reverse features John Mercanti's heraldic bald eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by thirteen stars and the inscriptions "United States of America" and "1 oz. Fine Silver — One Dollar. " The NGC Gem Uncirculated designation reflects exceptional strike quality and exceptional surface preservation, making this 2008 issue a strong centerpiece for a type set or a date-run collection of American Silver Eagles.

Frequently asked questions

This coin was certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and assigned a grade of Gem Uncirculated. The NGC certification number is 3255126-045, which can be verified through NGC's online registry. Gem Uncirculated indicates exceptional strike quality and outstanding surface preservation.
Each American Silver Eagle contains exactly 1 troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, as inscribed on the coin's reverse: "1 oz. Fine Silver." This composition has been consistent throughout the entire Silver Eagle series since its introduction in 1986.
The obverse Walking Liberty design was created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, originally debuted on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The reverse heraldic eagle was designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti and has appeared on American Silver Eagles since the series launched in 1986.
The coin is housed in NGC's rigid, sonically sealed plastic slab, which protects the surfaces from handling and environmental exposure. The slab's tamper-evident design keeps the coin securely encapsulated and display-ready, making it safe for shipping and long-term storage in a collection.
