Description

The 1923 Peace Dollar graded NGC MS 63 is a choice uncirculated example of one of America's most beloved silver coin series. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 0. 900 fine silver, this one-dollar coin was issued during the golden era of Peace Dollar production — 1923 recorded the highest mintage of any year in the series, making it the definitive type coin for collectors assembling Peace Dollar sets or U. S. type sets alike. The obverse presents Anthony de Francisci's celebrated portrait of Liberty wearing a radiant crown, with IN GOD WE TRUST arcing below and LIBERTY above — a design widely regarded as one of the most artistically distinguished of any 20th-century U. S. coin. The reverse shows a bald eagle at rest on a rocky crag, clutching an olive branch, bathed in radiating sunrays, with PEACE inscribed at the base. At MS 63, the coin displays full mint luster with only minor scattered contact marks consistent with the grade. It is encapsulated in NGC's sonically sealed, tamper-evident holder bearing cert number 4264245-250, making registry lookup straightforward for any buyer.

Frequently asked questions

MS 63 (Mint State 63) indicates a choice uncirculated coin with full original mint luster and only minor scattered contact marks. The coin has never circulated. NGC's MS 63 designation places this 1923 Peace Dollar solidly in the collectible uncirculated tier, above average strikes but with room for light surface marks consistent with bag handling at the mint.
The 1923 Philadelphia issue is the highest-mintage Peace Dollar of the entire series, making it the most accessible date and the preferred type coin for collectors. Its abundance at lower grades makes a certified MS 63 example — with confirmed luster and grade — an attractive, displayable centerpiece for any Peace Dollar or U.S. type set.
Peace Dollars are struck in 0.900 fine silver with a total weight of 26.73 grams (approximately 0.7734 troy oz of pure silver). This composition was standard for U.S. silver dollars from the Morgan Dollar era through the final Peace Dollars struck in 1935.
